As announced and advertised, the International Women’s Day conference hosted by the Women of Essence Foundation was held on Friday 8th March, 2013.It was a great time as women from all walks of life gathered together for three hours at the meeting hall of The Business in CBD, Alausa, Ikeja for a life changing experience.The speakers at the conference were Hon Justice Ifeyinwa Nzeako (former President of National Council of Women’s Societies – NCWS), Pastor (Mrs) Debola Atoyebi (C.E.O. Heritage House Montessori), Pastor (Mrs) Ruth Nick Essien (Founding President of Fruitful Family Church, Lagos). The Mother of the day was Mrs Hilda Adefarasin- former President NCWS. Also in attendance was Ms Funke Odutola an Assistant Director in the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty alleviation who was present to represent the Deputy Governor of Lagos State- Her Excellency- Mrs Adejoke Orelope Adefulire.

The theme of the conference was Women: Agents of Peace, which each speaker looking at the topic from three different dimensions. Ms Odutola read the goodwill message from the Deputy Governor before the first speaker took her first paper. Hon Nzeakor looked at how women should play their roles as agents of peace in the society, while Pastor (Mrs) Atoyebi talked about the woman’s responsibilities as a peace agent in the home. She (Mrs Atoyebi) shared extensively from her personal experience, as she encouraged women to be committed to being peace brokers in their homes. Pastor Ruth Essien looked at the subject of finding inner peace, as she noted, that it is only those that have truly found inner peace that can share it with others.

The Women of Essence Foundation was also officially presented to the house by Mrs Omokorede Fasoro- Chairperson and Coordinator. She shared with those present how the vision to set up a foundation was birthed out of some challenges she faced during a season of her life in the pursuit of purpose and relevance. The mission of the foundation, is to help women discover, pursue and fulfill God’s purposes for their lives, so that they can make positive impact on their families and societies at large. This will be done through Seminars, Personal Development& Leadership trainings, Entrepreneurship & Skills acquisition trainings, mentoring, counselling, networking and so on. A call was then made for people to support the activities of the Foundation in any of the three categories as DONORS, VOLUNTEERS or PARTNERS.

According many of the participants, attending the conference was a worthwhile experience for them and time very well spent.
