The second edition of the International Day of the Girl Child conference held on Friday, 13th November 2015 at Hallmark Secondary School Ondo.
Five invited schools were well represented and they participated in the discussion panel on how communities can harness the potentials of the girl child and what benefits this has.
The first speaker Mrs Atilola spoke passionately about the Importance of Empowering the Girl Child particularly through education. She charges that the future of a nation depends on the empowerment of the girl and proceeds to explore the multifaceted benefits that the empowerment of the girl brings. She spoke elaborately on the economic, political and social benefits that communities and the nation stand to gain from this.
The second presentation “Today’s Girl, Tomorrow’s Woman” was delivered by Mrs Korede Fasoro. She makes a case for correct definition of success to be known by the girls to help them set their priorities right. Her presentation ended with her showing an inspiring video of successful persons who have excelled despite setbacks titled ‘Famous Failures”.
The proprietress of Hallmark Secondary School expressed a strong desire for the next edition of the conference to reach a wider audience of girls in the state, explaining that this would be the legacy that the school builds.
